Woman stabs boyfriend over Tuesday’s ‘AI’
As someone who has to watch and report on American Idol every week, I often feel like stabbing out my own eyes, but never those of the people sitting around me.
Not so for a Florida couple, whose Tuesday night argument over the Fox talent show led to attempted murder.
The St. Petersburg Times says Cynthia E. Bettis-Ware, 52, was arrested by police on a charge of first-degree attempted murder. Her target? Boyfriend Kevin Johnson, 47.
The couple, the newspaper explains, were watching Tuesday’s episode of American Idol – which featured Avril Lavigne and Katy Perry as guest judges in Los Angeles – in their motel room when they began “arguing over something that happened on the show.”
St. Petersburg police spokesperson Jennifer Dawkins recounted that Johnson turned the channel to stop the argument, eventually heading off to bed when Bettis-Ware kept fighting with him.
Johnson awakened when Bettis-Ware stabbed him five times in the back and twice in the chest with a butcher knife; she also splashed him with hot cocoa.
Johnson wrestled the knife away from his true love and ran; she pursued him with another knife. Police say someone in the ensuing crowd that formed placed a call to them, and Bettis-Ware was arrested in her motel room.
She is being held without bail.
